Job Title: Part-time Social Media Campaigns Assistant (two days/ week or 16 hours/week).
Campaign: Novel 'Man At Sea' by Liam Bell (Released June 30th)
Internship start date: We are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible. The internship will end on July 15th 2022.
Closing date for job applications: Saturday 14th of May, midnight BST.
Location: Home/remote work, with candidates local to Manchester being able to have in-person meetings
Unpaid internship. The assistant will receive FOTW books, any expenses relevant such as train fare if required to attend an event, and a full reference when required.
With some flexibility on our side as to the exact remit of the post, this campaign internship it will cover many areas of publishing work, but there will be a focus on social media strategy and outreach. The successful candidate will work closely with Isabelle Kenyon.
What type of person are we looking for?
Our ideal candidate is someone who is creative, organised and proactive, has an interest in the publishing industry and contemporary, political literature, is thorough and methodical and, not least, is passionate about Fly on the Wall Press specifically at a pivotal time in our development, with novels being new to our output in 2022.
There is ample opportunity for the successful candidate to progress and to become involved in other areas depending on interest (eg editorial, PR); however, an interest in other areas is not a requirement of the job.
The successful person for the role will:
Be good at creating content for social media which is engaging, fun and well-written
Have their own ideas for social media engagement and an understanding of how to create conversation with customers whilst representing a brand
Be computer literate and good at problem solving
Thrive in a busy environment and have the ability to prioritise competing demands
Be pragmatic; self-motivated; have a ‘can do’ approach; be able to find solutions
Meet tight deadlines and be a self-organiser
Work well in a team and on own initiative
Desirable but not essential:
Experience within the sector (former positions and/or internships) is appreciated
A good eye for design and experience using online tools for social media such as Canva, Adobe Spark, and schedulers such as Tweet Deck, Hootsuite, Facebook Meta Suite designing promotional materials; POS, catalogues, galleys)
Content Management System (eg Wix) experience
Working knowledge of social media and other digital platforms as sales and marketing tools

Responsibilities of the Role
This role will revolve mostly around the campaign for novel 'Man At Sea' by Liam Bell.
Blog content: Sourcing content for our Wix blog (eg features such as Bookshop of the Month (those who stock Man At Sea or other recent titles, Book insider of the Month, author interview), using knowledge of Man At Sea and of wider discussions they feed into.
Social media graphic creation: using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and LinkedIn, create customised content for each platform which is both character-focused, selling the STORY of Man At Sea, and book/author focused, selling the gravitas of the author/the key themes/genres and how they are relevant today.
Sourcing and contact with book influencers, with a view to gaining reviews for Man At Sea. Keeping track of all contact on a shared Google Sheet and later promoting these reviews across our social media as they go live. Later contact of said influencers to double up reviews across Goodreads, Amazon and Waterstones.
Social media press pack for Man At Sea: ready made posts for each social media platform/newsletter for our social media partners. Later emailing of these packs to friends of FOTW for mutual promotion.
