FLY ON THE WALL PRESS ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF DONNA MOORE'S HISTORICAL CRIME "THE DEVIL’S DRAPER”

Fly on the Wall Press announces the acquisition of Donna Moore's fourth crime fiction novel, "The Devil's Draper," a historical crime novel which is the sequel to the acclaimed "The Unpicking." Set for publication on May 1, 2025, this 1920s historical crime novel continues the story of Mabel, Glasgow's first policewoman, as she investigates abuse claims at Arrol's department store with the help of Johnnie, a cunning thief, and Beatrice, a savvy businesswoman.

"The Devil's Draper" explores themes of justice and resilience in a world where women's voices are often silenced. As the trio uncovers a scandalous truth, they find their own lives at risk.

Author Donna Moore said: "I'm delighted that Fly on the Wall Press will be publishing the follow-up to The Unpicking. It was originally conceived as a stand-alone novel, but I found that I couldn't get the character of Mabel or her story out of my head and wanted to continue exploring her life in Glasgow's police force in the 1920s.”

Alistair McAbbott of The Herald praised Moore's previous work, "The Unpicking":

"The air hangs heavy with constant menace, and Moore evokes the wariness and vigilance of women and girls who have learned never to let their guard down: the heightened senses of the oppressed and vulnerable. There are villains here, of moustache-twirling wickedness, but at every turn Moore highlights the institutional and societal misogyny that enables them, the collusion they can always rely on, whether in an asylum, a girls’ home or the police force."

Moore's previous works include her Lefty Award-winning crime fiction novel "Go To Helena Handbasket" and shortlisted novel "Old Dogs". Her dedication to shedding light on women's history and gender-based violence is inspired by her work as an adult literacy tutor at Glasgow Women’s Library.

Fly on the Wall Press eagerly anticipates the release of "The Devil’s Draper" in May 2025.

If you are asking How many semesters of intake in UK, the answer is that most UK universities usually have two main intakes: September and January. September is the biggest intake with the widest choice of courses, while January gives students a second chance to start without waiting a full year. Some universities also offer a third intake in May or June for selected courses, mainly at postgraduate level.
